Lagos State Supports Anti-Plastic Pollution Campaign

The Lagos State government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating plastic pollution by pledging full support for an anti-plastic pollution campaign. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort led by the Lagos State Environment Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Zero Waste Parliament.

Key stakeholders, including various state ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, participated in a forum where they expressed their dedication to the cause. Mr.

Faderera Koko, LASEPA's General Manager, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in promoting sustainable waste reduction and advancing circular economy practices. Yewand Obasa, representing the Ministry of Environment, emphasized the necessity of multi-sector collaboration for achieving lasting environmental change.

Weyinmi Okoti, managing the Clean Air Program, noted that nearly half of urban waste in Lagos consists of organic waste, which contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign urges stakeholders to take decisive action to reduce plastic production and manage waste effectively.
