Obidigbo Critiques Gowon’s Autobiography on Biafra War

Chike Obidigbo, an elder statesman and member of the Igbochukwu Organisation, accused former Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon of neglecting essential truths regarding the Biafra War in his autobiography. Obidigbo stated that Gowon deliberately omitted significant facts about the genocide against the Igbo people during the conflict from 1967 to 1970.

He criticized Gowon for portraying the Biafra secession as solely the idea of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, asserting that Ojukwu's actions were a response to the dire circumstances faced by the Igbo. Obidigbo referenced discussions between Ojukwu and British officials, indicating that there was international pressure and support for the Eastern Region's autonomy.

He urged current leaders, including Bola Tinubu, to learn from history and not deceive future generations about Nigeria's past challenges. Obidigbo's comments reflect ongoing tensions regarding the historical narrative of the Biafra conflict and its implications for contemporary Nigerian politics.
