Grammy Awards Introduces Five New Categories for 2027

The Record Academy announced the introduction of five new categories for the Grammy Awards ahead of the 69th ceremony, which is scheduled to air on February 7, 2027. This change is part of a broader effort to reflect the evolving global music landscape and ensure a wider range of genres and artists are recognized.

The updates include a revised eligibility rule for the Best New Artist category, allowing for more flexibility. Notable new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which marks the Grammy's first dedicated recognition of Asian pop music, honoring performances from major Asian markets such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop.

Other new categories are Best Latin Song, recognizing newly written Latin music predominantly in Spanish; Best R&B Collaboration, celebrating modern R&B performances that incorporate hip hop, pop, and electronic influences; Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, honoring interpretations of classic pop standards; and Best Traditional Folk Album, recognizing traditional folk styles, including ballads and protest songs.
