INEC Dismisses AI Analysis in Amupitan's Probe

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will not base its findings on artificial intelligence analyses or screenshots in the ongoing investigation into allegations of digital impersonation involving its chairman, Joash Amupitan. Lawrence Bayod, INEC's ICT director, disclosed this during an interview on Channel Television on Monday.

He emphasized that the commission is already working with security agencies and external forensic experts to verify the authenticity of the accounts involved. Despite the reliance on security agencies, Bayod noted that INEC would not depend on unverifiable materials to reach conclusions.

The commission is preparing for the upcoming elections in 2027 and plans to expand its use of technology to address emerging digital threats. Bayod also cautioned against relying on AI tools like Grok, which he described as potentially misleading.

The controversy arose from a post linked to APC youth leader Dayo Israel, which falsely suggested partisan involvement by INEC.
