Group Urges Tinubu to Ensure Smooth Customs Transition

During a press conference in Bauchi, Adamu Muhammad Abdullahi, representing the Arewa Youth Advocacy for Good Governance (AYAGG), called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt strategic measures to safeguard the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service. The group expressed concern over the imminent retirement of several senior management officials, which they believe could create a leadership gap and weaken the institution at a critical time when the federal government is implementing extensive economic reforms under Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Abdullahi emphasized that the Nigeria Customs Service plays a crucial role in revenue generation and border security, and any disruption in leadership could slow ongoing modernization efforts. The group urged the president to consider a phased leadership transition to retain critical institutional expertise and ensure the success of planned reforms, highlighting that the success of these reforms depends on consistent leadership and policy implementation.
