Tinubu Extends Adeniyi's Tenure as Customs CG to 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted a six-month extension to Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, pushing his retirement date to February 2027. This extension, announced by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, is intended to support the consolidation and implementation of the national single window system, ensuring orderly success during the transition period.

Adeniyi's initial tenure extension was due to expire on August 1, 2026. He has served in the Nigeria Customs Service for 35 years, having joined after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s.

He rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, and Assistant Comptroller General in 2020. He was appointed as Acting Deputy Comptroller General in January 2023 and subsequently appointed as Comptroller General by President Tinubu in June 2023.
