Clita Refutes Claims of Egbetokun's Senatorial Ambition

The civil society organization Clita has publicly debunked an online report claiming that former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun is nursing ambitions for a senatorial position. In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Clita's Executive Director, Isaiah Davi Ijel, described the report as a fabrication from unreliable sources aimed at tarnishing Egbetokun's reputation.

Ijel emphasized that Egbetokun had only left office two weeks prior and should be allowed to rest after his service to the nation. The report also falsely claimed that Egbetokun refused to vacate the IGP residence, a practice that Ijel noted was not uncommon among predecessors, citing Usman Alkali Baba, who remained in the residence for four months after his tenure.

Clita condemned the report as an attempt to misinform the public and disrupt peace in Nigeria, labeling the source as a "rabble-rouser" and calling for ethical journalism.
