CLITA Defends Ex-IGP Egbetokun Against Sahara Reporters

The civil society organization CLITA, represented by Executive Director Isaiah Davi Ijel, condemned Sahara Reporters for its reports regarding former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Benjamin Hundeyi. The organization described the reports as misleading and defamatory, particularly targeting journalist Omoyele Sowore, whom they accused of spreading falsehoods.

They asserted that Egbetokun, who left office less than two weeks ago, deserved respect and a peaceful transition, contrary to claims that he refused to vacate his official residence. Ijel emphasized that Sowore's actions were an attempt to blackmail and misinform the public, labeling him a "delusional" activist.

Additionally, the organization defended Hundeyi against allegations of being removed from his position, asserting that the claims were unfounded and damaging to the integrity of journalism in Nigeria.
