Concerns Rise Over NFF's Upcoming Elective Congress

Ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) elective congress scheduled for September 27, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Prince Harrison Jalla, Chairman of the Advocacy for Nigeria Football Reforms Initiative, has expressed serious concerns regarding the future of football in Nigeria. He claims that the election process is biased in favor of incumbent President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, potentially allowing him to secure a second term unopposed.

Jalla noted that the election is currently sub-judice, with two pending court cases demanding reforms and enforcement of previous judgments. He criticized the National Sports Commission and the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Sports for their inaction, despite evidence of the need for reform.

Jalla also mentioned that many potential candidates have been discouraged from running due to the predetermined nature of the election process, with the deadline for form submissions set for August 12, 2026. He highlighted the challenges faced by candidates in securing endorsements across Nigeria's geopolitical zones.
