Nigerian Group Demands Probe Into Alleged Forgery of 2025 Tax Law

Citizen advocacy group Citizen Monitor has called for a probe into the alleged forgery of the 2025 tax law in Nigeria, expressing concerns about the implications for constitutional governance and public trust. The group's spokesperson, Olajumoke Alawode James Mondai, condemned the federal government's silence on the matter and insisted that the tax law was not validly passed by the legislature and cannot be enforced in a democracy.

They highlighted the need to adhere to legal procedures, particularly in taxation matters, and warned against the circulation of forged public documents, which could constitute a criminal offense. Adeshope Haastrup, co-founder of Citizen Monitor, stressed the importance of conducting an independent investigation to determine the authenticity of the documents involved in the enforcement of the tax law.
