BEPU Calls for Probe into Deadly Kaduna Miners' Clash

The Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into a deadly clash involving suspected illegal miners in Randagi community, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State. Reports from BBC Hausa indicated that many people were feared dead, although the Kaduna State Government and security agencies had not confirmed the casualty figures at the time of reporting.

Dr Isah Muhammad, Chairman of BEPU, described the incident as tragic and extended condolences to the victims' families while praying for the recovery of the injured. BEPU expressed deep concern over the incident and called for prompt action from relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the clash.

The union also urged the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, along with mining regulatory agencies, to enhance oversight of mining activities, citing complaints from residents about environmental damage and public health risks. They emphasized the need for mining operations to benefit local communities through improved infrastructure and services.
