Tinubu Administration Boosts Technical Education for Youth

The Social Advocacy Forum (SAF) praised President Bola Tinubu's administration for placing Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) at the forefront of its human capital development agenda. In a statement signed by Chairman Tahir Ibrahim Tahir and Secretary Shehu Atta, the group noted that the government deserves applause for recognizing skill acquisition as a strategic instrument for youth development and economic empowerment.

The forum highlighted the urgent need for a coordinated effort to modernize and revive technical schools across Nigeria, especially given the projected youth population of approximately 167 million by 2026, with over 85 million either unemployed or underemployed. The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the World Bank, plans to implement a nationwide TVET initiative aimed at training 960,000 youth in 28 high-demand trades, including ICT and renewable energy.

Participants will receive a monthly stipend of 22,500 naira and post-training business grants to support enterprise creation.
