New Guidelines Launched to Resolve Herders-Farmers Conflict

During the launch of conflict resolution guidelines in Makurdi, Benue State, Mr. Ijeoma Nwafor from HIIL addressed the growing herders-farmers conflict, which has become a significant source of insecurity in Nigeria.

The guidelines aim to promote peaceful coexistence and community resolutions to disputes over land and water access. Nwafor noted that approximately 140 million Nigerians lack access to legal justice, which exacerbates social and economic crises.

The initiative is supported by the UK Foreign Commonwealth Development Office and focuses on strengthening local solutions and traditional mediation systems. Traditional rulers, including Royal Majesti John Elaigwu Odogbo, expressed commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to resolve conflicts.

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, pledged to implement the guidelines to address the herders-farmers conflict effectively.
