Kaduna State Launches Guidelines for Farmer-Herder Peace

Kaduna State has launched new guidelines aimed at addressing the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders, a significant issue affecting peace and security in the region. The initiative, spearheaded by Dr.

Sule Shuaibu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, seeks to consolidate gains made in tackling insecurity. The guidelines were developed through extensive consultations with stakeholders and research conducted by the Hagu Institute, led by Mariam Abba.

The project is funded by the Spring Program, which covers Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, and Benue states, and aims to train 2,400 individuals across these states, including 600 in Kaduna. The guidelines are designed to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen institutional capacities to resolve conflicts, particularly those related to farming and herding, through community-based mediation.

The initiative is expected to reduce the burden of farmer-herder cases in court and foster trust among communities.
