Petition Urges Investigation into Kuje Prison Conditions

A nonprofit organization has submitted a petition to the Minister of Interior, highlighting alleged dehumanizing treatment of inmates at Kuje Prison in Abuja. The petition, signed by Mr. Ben Okundayo, who heads the Await Trial Office, claims that inmates face unauthorized fees for basic amenities, restricted access to medical care, and retaliation for speaking out against mistreatment.

Despite repeated efforts to seek redress, grievances remain unaddressed, leaving inmates in a vulnerable state. The organization alleges a systematic scheme that exploits inmates financially and calls for an impartial investigation to protect them.

The petition, which includes evidence, was submitted on August 8, 2024, and urges the committee to intervene decisively to restore hope, dignity, and justice for the inmates in Kuje custody.
