Kaduna Protests Demand Justice for El-Rufai's Violations

The Kaduna Voice Unit, led by Nura Basiru, has announced plans for mass protests across Kaduna State, demanding a continued investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The protests are aimed at holding El-Rufai accountable for alleged human rights violations during his administration, which included extrajudicial killings and suppression of dissent.

The demonstrations will occur simultaneously in major locations across the state, culminating in a central protest at the state capital. The group emphasizes the need for justice for victims of abuses recorded during El-Rufai's tenure, citing incidents such as the Zaria Shiite massacre in December 2015, where government forces clashed with members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, leading to numerous deaths.

The protests also seek to address the unresolved disappearance of activist Abubakar Idri, abducted in August 2019. The coalition believes that holding individuals accountable is essential for good governance and the protection of human rights in Nigeria.
