Kaduna Assembly Confirms Probe of El-Rufai Amid Protests

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, following protests by citizens demanding updates on the matter. The protests, led by Ambassador Yerima Shettima and supported by the Coalition of Kaduna Stakeholders, involved hundreds of citizens who stormed the assembly complex.

They submitted a formal letter to the Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, requesting updates on the legislative investigation concerning allegations of misappropriation of ₦432 billion.

Speaker Liman disclosed that the assembly has already taken concrete steps regarding the investigation, revealing that a committee was constituted in June 2024 to conclude the probe and submit its report to the appropriate authorities. He emphasized that the assembly would not be deterred in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

Shettima described the protests as a form of civic engagement aimed at strengthening democratic institutions in the state and urged the assembly to provide clear updates on the status of the probe.
