CSJ Demands 2026 Budget Upload from Federal Government

The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has criticized the Federal Government for failing to upload the 2026 budget to the Budget Office of the Federation's website, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum for compliance. CSJ's lead director, Ez Onyekper, stated that this failure contravenes the constitutional statutory rights of Nigerian citizens to access information regarding public expenditure.

The 2026 federal budget was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on April 17, 2026, but has not been made available on the designated public electronic portal. The CSJ emphasized that the Budget Office's continued inaction is a gross dereliction of duty and a deliberate attempt to restrict public access to fiscal information.

They reminded the Budget Office of its responsibility under the Fiscal Responsibility Act to conduct financial affairs transparently. The CSJ demands immediate action to upload the budget and warns that failure to do so may lead to calls for resignations from those in leadership positions who do not fulfill their statutory duties.
