CDD Raises Alarm Over 5 Million Uncollected PVCs Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) raised concerns over 5 million uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections. Africa Dauda Garuba, the Director of CDD, highlighted the potential crisis this poses for the upcoming general election, risking exclusion of millions of citizens.

Garuba urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enhance technological infrastructure and voter outreach strategies for PVC collection. He emphasized the need for a coordinated national campaign, decentralized collection points, and grassroots voter education to ensure citizen participation.

Garuba also called for security agencies to maintain neutrality and combat vote buying and violence. Civil society organizations were urged to monitor and amplify citizen voices to resist inducement and empower voters for the 2027 elections.
