Concerns Raised Over Threats to Retired Military Welfare

The Northern Security Advocacy Group has expressed alarm over alleged threats to the welfare of Nigeria's retired military personnel, specifically targeting Air Vice Marshal Mikali Abdulraheem, the chairman of the Military Pension Board. During a press conference on Wednesday, Jonathan Onoja, the group's leader, accused certain media outlets of coordinating efforts to discredit Abdulraheem and his leadership.

Onoja highlighted that these media attacks are part of a broader campaign to resist reforms introduced by Abdulraheem, which include faster and more transparent pension payments and the introduction of a nationwide digital verification system to curb fraud. He emphasized that several military veterans support the board's improved efficiency and warned that the ongoing campaign not only targets Abdulraheem but also undermines the welfare and dignity of all retired servicemen and women.

The group urged stakeholders and security agencies to support the ongoing reforms rather than distract from them.
