Oghara Study Group Urges Action Against Rising Insecurity

The Oghara Study Group (OSG), a civic advocacy organization in the Ethiopia West Local Government Area of Delta State, has urgently called for coordinated action to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in the Oghara kingdom. During a press briefing, Prof.

Ogheneruonah Eghwere and Rev. David Ugolor highlighted the deteriorating security situation, which poses a serious threat to the safety of residents and socio-economic development.

The group expressed concern over a surge in organized criminal activities, including kidnappings for ransom and ritual killings. A recent incident involved the abduction of a husband and wife, where the husband was allegedly killed, and the wife was released after a ransom payment.

The OSG warned that the prevailing insecurity threatens education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, and commerce. They advocated for stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations, urging the federal government to deploy additional police personnel and establish a joint military-police task force in the area.

The group also called for an emergency security summit to address these issues.
