Group Defends DSS Chief Ajayi Against Sowore's Criticism

A group has condemned Omoyele Sowore for his criticism of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) regarding the award conferred to Oluwatosin Ajayi, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS). In a statement issued by the group's coordinator, Job Samuel Danfulani, they described Sowore's comments as deeply troubling and alarming, highlighting serious moral, legal, and security implications.

While acknowledging Sowore's right to dissent, the group emphasized that criticism should be conducted within legal boundaries. They noted that Ajayi's leadership has earned commendations from both local and international media bodies for improving relationships with journalists, contrasting it with previous years marked by harassment and intimidation of journalists.

The group questioned why Sowore did not publicly challenge prior honors awarded to Ajayi by the International Press Institute (IPI). They urged human rights organizations and journalists to condemn Sowore's actions and called on Ajayi to remain focused on upholding the rule of law.
