Call for Enhanced Documentation of Nigeria's Peace Efforts

Felix Allison, Executive Director of the Conflict Research Network West Africa, urged for stronger documentation of peacebuilding efforts in Nigeria to enhance policy development strategies. This call was made during a high-level user engagement dialogue at a peace actor network forum, which focused on a digital peace data platform for Nigeria.

The initiative, funded by the UK Government Foreign Commonwealth Development Office, aims to strengthen peace resilience through a project implemented by Tetra Tech. The current pilot program operates in Plateau, Kaduna, and Katsina states, with plans for expansion across all 36 states.

Allison highlighted the importance of documenting grassroots peacebuilding efforts, which often remain undocumented and disconnected from the broader peace web. He recommended incorporating community-level reporting mechanisms and ensuring the platform reflects both formal and informal peace actor participation.

The dialogue also raised issues regarding the need for clearer definitions and verification systems to ensure the credibility of the data collected.
