Human Rights Group Demands Reinstatement of 455 Police Officers

The Defenders of Nigerian Citizens (DNC) have called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission to comply with court orders regarding the reinstatement of 455 senior police officers who were compulsorily retired. These officers, graduates of the Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Courses 18, 19, and 20 from the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, secured court orders for their reinstatement after being retired.
DNC Coordinator Aliu Adeifa expressed concern over the slow implementation of these orders, noting that the officers had only been sent for an induction course in Jos, Plateau State. Adeifa stated that the police authorities should ensure the officers are fully reinstated, posted to their duties, and paid their outstanding entitlements after completing the course.
The group also suggested excluding officers over 60 years old or those already receiving pensions from the reinstatement process. Additionally, DNC urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of police personnel to enhance their morale and productivity.
