Ndi Igbo Union Calls for Unified Legal System in Nigeria

The Ndi Igbo Worldwide Union, represented by President Benjamin Nwankwo and Secretary Chief Charl Edemuzo, has called for Nigeria to adopt a unified legal system. In a press release, they cautioned that the current coexistence of Sharia law and common law is unsustainable and poses a significant threat to national unity.

The union argues that Nigeria cannot continue to function as a common law society alongside a fully developed religious legal system. They emphasize that northern leaders must choose between embracing an egalitarian common law system or allowing the existence of exclusive Islamic enclaves.

The statement warns that failure to resolve the Sharia crisis could lead to national fragmentation and violence, particularly against Judeo-Christian citizens. The union references historical precedents for safe havens and urges immediate legislative action to remove Sharia from the constitution to preserve peace and ensure equal rights for all Nigerians.
