Humanitarian Crisis Looms in Taraba IDP Camps

Mzough U Tiv has raised alarms about a potential humanitarian crisis in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps located in Taraba State, particularly in the Chanchanji and Takum areas. Professor Hemen Ager, the president of the group, reported that the Tiv community in the southern senatorial district has faced ongoing attacks from armed Fulani militia since September 2025, leading to significant destruction and loss of life.

Over 300 Tiv individuals have reportedly been killed in the past five months, with at least 50,000 residents displaced across the affected areas. The group claims that around 100 villages and 12 churches belonging to the NKST Roman Catholic Church have been destroyed.

Displaced farmers have been forced to abandon their unharvested crops due to insecurity. Mzough U Tiv criticized the government's inadequate response and called on Governor Agbu Kefa and the Chief Security Officer of the state to visit the affected areas and provide relief.

The organization also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to intervene urgently to prevent a worsening humanitarian situation, especially with the rainy season approaching.
