Tiv Communities in Taraba Alarmed by Killings and Attacks

Tiv communities in Taraba State, particularly in the Takum and Donga local government areas, have expressed serious concerns over ongoing violence, including a recent attack that resulted in the deaths of six individuals, two of whom were police officers. Community leader Stephen Kajo reported that the situation has escalated, with rumors of further attacks creating panic among thousands of internally displaced persons who have fled their homes.

Kajo noted that the humanitarian situation is worsening, as many displaced individuals lack shelter, food, and basic necessities. Despite assurances from the Taraba State Governor during a visit on March 2, 2026, that security would be improved to facilitate the return of displaced persons, little progress has been made.

Kajo has urged both state and federal governments to deploy security personnel urgently to protect lives and property and to enable the safe return of displaced individuals to their ancestral homes.
