Igbo Monarchs Urged to Address South-east Issues

Advocacy groups have called on traditional rulers in South-east Nigeria to emulate Eze Lawrence Agubuzu of Enugu by actively addressing critical issues affecting the region. In a joint statement released on Friday, the groups, including Rise Sun Foundation led by Dr.

Sylvest Onyia, urged the monarchs to speak out against the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). They emphasized the need for courage and moral authority from the traditional institutions to advocate for justice and fair dialogue.

The groups highlighted the importance of traditional rulers as custodians of the people's dignity and heritage, urging them to raise their voices during this period of public concern. They commended Eze Agubuzu for his forthright stance in a recent message to President Bola Tinubu, calling for either the release of Kanu or his return to Kenya, where he was rendered five years ago.

The statement stressed the necessity for unity and bold leadership in addressing grievances in Alaigbo.
