Guangxi Flooding Forces Evacuation of Over 54,000 Residents

Severe flooding in Guangxi, China, has led to the relocation of over 54,000 people, triggered by heavy rainfall from Typhoon Narra. In Chongzuo, authorities evacuated more than 15,000 residents after water levels exceeded a record high set in 2008.

The flooding has submerged homes and shops, prompting a notice from Chongzuo authorities on Monday to cease all business and tourist operations and advised evacuated residents against returning to high-risk areas. The southern island province of Hainan has also been affected, with heavy rain impacting Guangxi and nearby provinces, including Guangdong and Fujian.

Reports indicate that river water overflowed into Chongzuo, reaching the rooftops of some buildings and power lines. Continued heavy rainfall is forecasted across parts of Vietnam and southern China through Wednesday, raising concerns for further flooding.
