NEMA Urges Flood-prone Communities to Relocate Safely

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), represented by Umar, has urged residents of flood-prone communities in Nigeria to relocate to safer areas as heavy rainfall continues. In a statement from the agency's head of media unit, Manzo Ezekiel, Umar emphasized the importance of early warning alerts issued by relevant government agencies.

She advised the public to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters and to refrain from dumping refuse in drainage channels. Residents are encouraged to report emergency situations to appropriate authorities for swift responses.

Umar stressed the need for preparedness and early evacuation to prevent loss of life and reduce the impact of floods during the peak rainy season. NEMA's zonal director also directed an intensification of community-based awareness campaigns on flood preparedness and called for strengthened collaboration with state emergency management agencies and local emergency management committees.

The agency remains committed to monitoring flood situations across the country and ensuring timely humanitarian assistance for affected persons.
