Gumi Condemns Kidnapping of UNIJOS Graduate John Arum

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi condemned the abduction of John Arum, a graduate of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), by armed kidnappers who are demanding a ransom of N30 million. Gumi expressed outrage over the deteriorating kidnapping crisis in Nigeria and criticized the government's slow response to such incidents.

He warned that the increasing wave of abductions poses a threat to all Nigerians and called for a more comprehensive strategy beyond military force to address the issue. Gumi emphasized the need for dialogue and ideological reorientation to prevent violence and highlighted the dangers of emotional reactions and conspiracy theories surrounding the crisis.

He also noted that the failure of the state to act decisively has emboldened non-state actors and created an environment where criminal groups can operate freely. In response to the abduction, the Nigerian Students Association issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the federal government and the Plateau State government to secure Arum's release, threatening nationwide protests if their demands are not met.
