NANS Demands Action on UNIJOS Student Abduction

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), represented by Olushola Oladoja, has given the federal government a 48-hour ultimatum to secure the release of John Arum, a student from the University of Jos (UNIJOS), who was kidnapped while traveling in Kaduna. NANS expressed outrage over the incident, highlighting it as a reflection of the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, particularly affecting students.

The organization condemned the abduction, which reportedly involved brutal treatment and a ransom demand of 30 million Naira. NANS criticized the slow and inadequate response of security agencies and government authorities, warning that failure to meet their demands would lead to nationwide protests and a total shutdown of socio-economic and academic activities.

They called for immediate deployment of intelligence and security resources to ensure Arum's safe release and demanded regular updates on rescue efforts, emphasizing that students will not remain silent in the face of violence and abductions.
