Gunmen Abduct Worshippers During Church Service in Kwara

On a Sunday service in Omugo Community, Kwara State, gunmen abducted eight worshippers from Evangel Church, part of the ECWA denomination. Eyewitness accounts reported that the assailants stormed the premises, firing sporadically, which caused panic among the congregation.

In a twist, three of the abducted victims managed to escape from their captors, leaving five others still in captivity. This incident follows a similar attack on a CAC Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, where worshippers were targeted during service.

The Kwara State government confirmed the attack, describing it as disturbing and condemned the targeting of places of worship. Governor Bolanle Olukoju commended local security forces for their swift intervention and acknowledged the role of local vigilantes in facilitating the escape of the three victims.

The government has urged security stakeholders to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims and to collaborate with local vigilantes to confront the growing threat of criminal activities in the area.
