Gunmen Kill Two, Kidnap Many in Kogi; 23 Rescued

In the early hours of Monday, gunmen invaded a community in Kogi State, attacking travelers on a major road. The assault occurred around 2:25 AM, resulting in the deaths of two residents and injuries to several others.

According to Kogi State Police Commissioner Naziru Kankarofi, the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, prompting residents to flee. The attackers abducted several travelers in commercial vehicles.

Following the incident, the Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade launched a counter-kidnapping operation after receiving a distress call at 3:30 AM. Troops responded promptly, pursuing the kidnappers along the Ayegunle Bunu road in the Kabba Bunu Local Government Area.

During the operation, two victims were confirmed dead, and five others sustained injuries. The aggressive pursuit forced the kidnappers to abandon 23 captives, who were subsequently rescued unharmed.

The army continues to dominate the area, conducting intensive searches to locate any remaining victims.
