Gunmen assassinate Islamic cleric Sheikh Masussuka in Katsina

On Monday night, gunmen attacked Islamic cleric Sheikh Masussuka and an associate at approximately 9 pm at the entrance of the cleric’s residence in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. The assailants opened fire on the two men, who were subsequently rushed to Dutsin-Ma Hospital for emergency medical attention but were later confirmed dead.

The incident has caused mourning in the community, particularly among the cleric's followers and local residents. The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the deaths but has not provided further details regarding the attackers or the motive behind the killing.

Sheikh Masussuka had planned to organize a religious gathering in Katsina State later that week and had previously faced controversies over his religious teachings. On November 18, 2025, the Katsina State Government announced that he would need to defend his teachings before a committee of Islamic scholars.

However, there is no indication that this controversy is connected to the recent attack.
