Gunmen assassinate Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka in Katsina

On October 26, 2026, gunmen killed Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend Adamu Abubakar in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State. The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.

The attack took place around 7.30pm when two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on the victims in front of the cleric’s residence. Both victims were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the attending medical doctor.

Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer in Dutsin-Ma led a team of operatives to the scene. Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the area and initiated an investigation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The commissioner expressed condolences to the families, friends, and followers of the deceased, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
