Amnesty International Demands Justice for Katsina Cleric

Amnesty International and the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) condemned the killing of Sheikh Yahaya Masusuka, a renowned Islamic preacher, in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. Masusuka was reportedly killed on a Monday by gunmen on motorcycles as he left his house for evening preaching.
Amnesty International described the incident as disturbing and urged Nigerian authorities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. The organization noted that Masusuka had faced threats and intimidation throughout his life while promoting peaceful coexistence and opposing violent extremism.
The NYCN, through its President Comrade Isah Abubakar, labeled the killing a cowardly crime and an attack on the moral fabric of Northern Nigeria. The council called for a full-scale investigation to identify not only the gunmen but also the masterminds and accomplices.
They insisted that the era of superficial responses to such crimes must end, demanding real accountability and justice for the slain cleric.
