Cleric Malam Musa Lukuwa Attacked in Sokoto Mosque

Malam Musa Lukuwa, an Islamic cleric from Lukuwa village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, was attacked after a prayer session at his mosque. The assailant, identified as Mai Barewa, allegedly stabbed Lukuwa twice in the neck, reportedly in response to a sermon that cited a Hadith deemed offensive by some Islamic scholars.

Worshippers overpowered Barewa and killed him. Following threats made by Barewa against Lukuwa and his senior student, Malam Murtala Assada, the cleric had reported the threats to the police, leading to Barewa's arrest and subsequent court remand.

After the attack, Lukuwa was treated at the Specialist Hospital in Sokoto. DSP Ahmad Rufa’i of the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident and stated that no arrests had been made regarding the violence that ensued.

Lukuwa later appeared in a video, assuring his followers of his recovery and urging them to remain calm.
