Gunmen Kill Soldiers, Vigilante in Bauchi; Police Respond

On February 22, 2026, gunmen attacked Gwana District in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and one member of a vigilance group. The Bauchi State Police Command, represented by SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident, stating that the attack was part of a broader wave of violence in the region.

Following the attack, police neutralized seven bandits during a gun duel. The situation has led to the displacement of residents, with many fleeing to neighboring states such as Gombe, Plateau, and Adamawa due to fear of further attacks.

The People's Redemption Party (PRP), led by Hon Abba Abba, expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and called for urgent intervention from security agencies to restore peace and security in the area. The PRP highlighted the underlying issues of poverty, lack of education, and youth unemployment as contributing factors to the rise in criminal activities.
