Gunmen Kill Monarch in Imo, Police Launch Manhunt

On April 10, 2026, at approximately 4:30 PM, gunmen attacked and killed HRH Ez Barrist Paulinu Ekwuem, the traditional ruler of the Ochia Autonomous Community, along Asa Awara Road in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area, Imo State. The attack also resulted in the deaths of five unidentified victims.

Following the distress report, the Imo State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso, promptly dispatched a tactical team to the scene. The remains of the deceased were recovered and taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Owerri for preservation and autopsy.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation and intensified operations to apprehend the suspects. Additionally, the police management team visited the Ochia community to reassure residents of their commitment to restoring peace and enhancing security in the area.

The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and affirmed that the command is dedicated to maintaining peace and security in the state.
