UNIBEN Student Shot Dead Near Campus Gate in Ugbowo

A University of Benin (UNIBEN) student was shot dead by gunmen near the campus gate in Ugbowo on a Sunday night. The victim had reportedly just finished an examination in the Political Science department an hour prior to the incident.

Eyewitnesses stated that the gunmen, who were masked, shot the student at close range before fleeing the scene in a JLK Mercedes Benz. Two other individuals were injured in the attack and were rushed to the University of Benin Health Care Center for treatment.

The Ugbowo Division Police Headquarters was notified, and the Divisional Police Officer, SP Emmanuel, informed that the situation was sketchy and that the state police command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter. Separately, it was reported that a student had allegedly been chased with a machete by a social science lecturer on Saturday but escaped unharmed.
