Student Killed, Three Injured in Cult Attack at UNIBEN

On the evening of the incident, around 6 PM, a part-time student from the University of Benin, who had just completed an exam, was killed in a suspected cult attack. The attack took place in front of the Ugbowo campus along the Benin-Lagos Road.

The deceased was driving a GLK Mercedes Benz when a white unregistered GLK intercepted their vehicle. Masked gunmen inside the vehicle immediately opened fire, targeting the driver's side, leading to the death of the student and injuries to three other occupants.

The injured were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that one person was killed and three others sustained injuries.

The police are investigating the matter to identify the perpetrators. The management of the University of Benin, represented by spokesperson Benedicta Ehanir, dissociated the institution from the violent clash, indicating that it was related to cult activities outside the campus and not involving university staff or students.

The statement expressed regret over the loss of life and urged the university community to remain vigilant.
