Edo Governor Condemns UNIBEN Shooting Incident

Edo State Governor Monda Okpebholo condemned the killing of a youth by gunmen near the main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Benin City. The victim was reportedly shot dead in broad daylight on a Sunday.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akher Ebojel, Governor Okpebholo described the attack as "brazen" and "cold-blooded," labeling it an affront to human dignity and a threat to public safety. He extended condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the deceased, whose life was violently cut short.

The governor assured residents that the matter would not be ignored and promised that justice would be pursued. The Edo State Police Command has already commenced an investigation into the incident, with security agencies working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration's commitment to tackling cult-related violence across Edo State and emphasized ongoing collaborations with security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Army, to combat cultism.
