Gunmen Kill University of Benin Student, Two Injured

A student from the University of Benin was shot dead by gunmen near the main gate of the campus in Ugbowo on a Sunday night. The victim had reportedly just finished an examination in the Political Science department an hour earlier.

Eyewitnesses stated that the student was shot at close range by masked gunmen who later fled the scene. Two other individuals in a JLK Mercedes Benz were injured during the attack and were rushed to the University of Benin Health Care Center for treatment.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ugbowo division, Emmanuel, confirmed the incident and noted that the police have moved to the scene to evacuate the remaining victim. As of now, the state police command has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.

Additionally, there was a separate report of a student allegedly being chased with a machete by a lecturer on Saturday, but that individual escaped unharmed.
