Investigation Demanded in Mari Habila's Controversial Death

The death of Mari Habila, a member of a medical team attached to the Ministry of Health, has prompted calls for an investigation from Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress, and the Nigerian Medical Association. Habila was found dead in her hometown of Uburu, Ebonyi State, after reportedly complaining of a nosebleed during a phone conversation with her boyfriend shortly before her death.

Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu confirmed that Habila was brought dead to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Uburu. Despite the family's opposition to a post-mortem examination, police authorities plan to engage a pathologist to conduct one, citing the sensitive nature of the case.

Habila's father, Tanko Habila, filed an affidavit in the Ebonyi High Court requesting the release of her body for burial. The controversy surrounding her death has raised concerns about potential political implications, as David Umahi, the Minister of Health, has been linked to the incident.
