Ohanaeze Ndigbo Backs Probe into Mari Habila's Death

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed its support for a thorough investigation into the death of Mari Habila, a member of the medical support team attached to Minister of Works David Umahi. The organization has rejected calls for Umahi's resignation, describing such demands as premature and unjustified.

In a statement signed by Ezechi Chukwu on behalf of President General Azuta Mbata, Ohanaeze extended condolences to Habila's family and urged Nigerians to refrain from making comments that could prejudice the ongoing investigation. The organization emphasized the need for restraint and respect for the dignity of the deceased, highlighting that the legal principle of presumption of innocence must be upheld.

Umahi has already requested a comprehensive forensic autopsy to determine the circumstances surrounding Habila's death. Ohanaeze expressed confidence in the impartiality of the investigation and called for it to be guided by scientific evidence and due process.
