NEMA Website Breached by Hackers, Public Warned

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Nigeria has reported an unauthorized breach of its official website by suspected hackers. In a statement released on Friday, NEMA advised the public to disregard any suspicious content or fraudulent requests for money that may appear on the compromised website.

The agency is currently implementing necessary technical measures to rectify the breach and restore normal operations. NEMA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this incident and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue promptly and strengthen the security of its digital platforms.

The breach has raised concerns about ongoing cybersecurity vulnerabilities affecting Nigerian government institutions. A report indicated that on May 3, NEMA had failed to address a hijacked webpage, which redirected users to unauthorized betting content, specifically promoting the online gambling company 1xbet.

The agency did not provide details on whether sensitive data had been compromised.
