FA Panel Upholds Martínez's Suspension for Hair Pulling

The FA disciplinary panel ruled that hair pulling in football should not be tolerated, upholding a three-match suspension for Lisandro Martínez, a defender for Manchester United. This decision followed Martínez's dismissal for violent conduct during a Premier League match against Leeds, where he pulled the hair of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Referee Paul Tierney issued a straight red card after a VAR review during the match at Old Trafford, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Manchester United. The panel acknowledged differing opinions on violent conduct but emphasized the need to treat hair pulling seriously for the wider interest of football.

Despite Manchester United manager Michael Carrick's strong criticism of the decision, arguing that Martínez's actions did not constitute violent conduct, the panel unanimously rejected the club's appeal. Martínez has already served part of his suspension and will miss upcoming fixtures against Chelsea and Brentford.
