54 Nigerian Pilgrims Hospitalized, 4 Die During Hajj

During the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage, 54 Nigerian pilgrims have been hospitalized, and four have died, as disclosed by Habeebat Ajayi, head of the Nigerian medical team in Mecca. The deaths are attributed to heart-related complications, including suspected cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction, with one case involving strangulated hernia.

The medical conditions have been aggravated by harsh weather, prompting officials to advise pilgrims to avoid unnecessary movement and stay hydrated. Currently, there are five licensed clinics providing primary healthcare services to pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, with two located in Madinah and three in Makkah.

The clinics have seen an increase in patient turnout, with 24 patients referred to hospitals in Madinah and 30 in Makkah for specialized treatment. Fatima Saddiq, head of the Misfalah clinic, reported common cases treated include malaria, dehydration, and various injuries, with six doctors managing the growing number of health emergencies.
