Aviation Unions Picket Air Peace, Stranding Passengers

On August 11, 2026, operations of Air Peace were disrupted at Lagos and Abuja airports after aviation unions, including the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), picketed the airline. This action was coordinated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) due to allegations of anti-union practices and the non-remittance of statutory ticket sales charges.

Passengers were left stranded as union members blocked access to Air Peace's operations. The unions claimed that their grievances had not been addressed despite weeks of attempts to resolve the issues.

They accused some domestic airlines of preventing workers from joining trade unions and alleged that employees feared discrimination for expressing interest in union membership. The unions demanded that airlines affirm workers' rights to join unions and address the non-remittance of a five percent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC), which they argued affected collective bargaining agreements for aviation workers.
